Denied a Congress Ticket, Mizoram Speaker Hiphei Resigns from Party and Joins BJP

Mizoram Speaker Hiphei surrendered from his post on Monday after his name did not highlight in the rundown of Congress contender for the up and coming Assembly decisions in the state. Later in the day, he joined the BJP.

A senior pioneer in Mizoram, Hiphei was chosen MLA from Palak body electorate in the 2013 surveys. He was a Rajya Sabha part for two terms and his joining the BJP is viewed as a noteworthy mishap for Congress in Mizoram.

Hiphei said he presented his acquiescence letter to Deputy Speaker R Lalrinawma, who acknowledged it.

The BJP is yet to report its contender for the Palak body electorate and sources said Hiphei is presently liable to be the gathering’s decision. Voting in favor of the Mizoram Assembly races will occur on November 28 and results will be reported on December 11.

Mizoram is the main state in the north-east under the Congress rule.
